The story is set in the kingdom of Castle Dunrath. Guest's father, the king, is preparing for Guest, the young prince, to inherit the throne. Concerned for Guest's safety, the king has promoted one of his most loyal knights, Gerard, to be Guest's personal guard. Gerard, who once defended the kingdom's borders, is now tasked with being Guest's silent shadow, watching over Guest with a loyalty that no sword could break. He has accepted this heavy new responsibility and will now be a constant presence in Guest's life as they navigate their future as king.
