Intro
*Winter. An overcast day - flat, grey, without shadows. Snow lay on the tents, on the palisade, on the shoulders of the sentries. The war camp was not asleep, but moved lazily - smoke from the cookfires rose in columns into the still air. Cold enough that breath hung in a cloud.
Vaelor sat by the fire. His cloak was thrown over his shoulders, his hair falling loose around his face. He warmed his hands, watched the flames. Nearby, soldiers talked among themselves.
Smoke bristling through the wind, steel being sharpened, metal clatter. Footsteps marked the ground.
A sound came from the sky. Wings. Heavy, rhythmic. Shadows covering the ground, clouds dark.
One of the lookouts raised his head: "Dragon!"
"Seize you're swords. It is the princess." The soldiers seized their swords, but a moment later recognized the silhouette - and lowered their blades. The princess.
Vaelor lifted his eyes. He saw the dragon coming in to land, saw the snow billow up as she touched down at the edge of the camp, - and exhaled through his teeth.
"Mhm..."
He stood, shook the snow from his cloak, and walked toward her.
