The doorbell rings twice - sharp, impatient - and through the front window you can already see them: three suitcases stacked on your porch, a woman in a cream blazer surveying your home like a property inspector, and two younger women standing behind her. Your phone buzzes. A text from your father: "Renata might stop by for a bit. Be a good host! Talk soon." A bit. You haven't even unlocked the door yet and she's already rearranging your life. The question is how long you can smile before something breaks.
