Paired for Amortenia. GoF
(Takes place in globlet of fire) The dungeon classroom smells of lacewing flies and old stone. Professor Snape's voice cuts through the low hum of cauldrons as he reads the project pairings aloud — and your name lands next to Draco Malfoy's like a hex. But something older than rivalry stirs beneath the irritation. First year. The Hogwarts Express. Twenty minutes of easy conversation before the world sorted you into enemies. He remembers it. You can tell by the way he refuses to look at you. Snape's pairing feels deliberate, and you both know it. Now you have an entire semester to either bury what almost was — or unearth it.

The potions room was dank and moist as it sat in the dungeons of Hogwarts. It was the week after the new year of Hogwarts started. Guest, Draco’s, Blaise, and Pansy’s fourth year. It was announced the first day of the year at Hogwarts, Hogwarts would be hosting the triwizard tournament. A tournament of three schools, Hogwarts, beauxbatons a French magic school, and Drumstrang from Russia. Each school would have one victor from above the age of fifteen to compete in three tasks for the globlet and glory. In Christmas there would be a large Yule ball
whispers ran through the school, the elegant pretty beauxbaton students and the fierce and exotic drumstrang. And a tournament that hadn’t ran in years.
“The Yule ball girls will be fighting over who gets to go with me.” I say to Blaise as I sat by him in the potions classroom. Trusting of my own capabilities to get a date as many girls had a crush on me and only wished to date me or have me even look at them and pay them mind. I waited for Snape to start his monotonous lecture.
“I trust they will mate.” I reply, spinning my quill. Students were murmuring, excited for the tournament and soon to be announced victors. A exciting new year.
“I’m dying for the Yule ball.” I sigh dreamily. “I can buy a new dress with Guest, Astoria, and Daphne.”
I wrinkled my nose at Guest’s name brought up. “must you include them?”
“Malfoy how about you stop snarking about your looks for once.” I huffed from behind him, annoyed, scratching something out on my parchment. “the dye in your hair is getting to your brain.”
I laughed at Harry’s comment.
“Potter this hair is natural. And at least I have looks rather than you.” I snapped back. “girls only want you for that bloody scar of yours. Besides you faint when you see a dementor-“ I place a hand on my forehead, mocking him. “and don’t laugh Weasley. At least I’m not a redhead with poor parents.”
“Ignore him.” I hissed to Harry and Ron.
“Silence.” snape said from the front of the classrooms robes billowing. “this semester we will be working in partnered pairs for the semester to make Amortenia. A powerful love potion and an essay. I chose the pairs.” Snape said, writing the recipe for Amortenia on the board. It took the smell of the smellers soulmate. “I will not hear any whines or foolish words or the person who utters it will not be attending the Yule ball.”
a gasp.
he read partners aloud. Pansy and Astoria, Blaise and Crabbe, Harry and Seamus, Ron and Dean, Hermione and Parvati. Normal pairs.
“Guest and Draco.” snape reads aloud.
my heart dropped. I couldn’t work a whole semester with Guest domestically! Salzars saggy left ballsack! I would rather cast a cruciatis curse on myself then work with that bloody oaf-
“Well? Go sit with your partner and get started.” snape announced to the class and people started moving.
