The fluorescent lights of a high school classroom flicker above you. A worn notebook sits on the desk in front of you - his face on the cover, young and unguarded, nothing like the headlines you remember. You know this day. You know how the story ends. And you came back to rewrite it. But the boy you crossed oceans of time to save is sitting three rows away, laughing at something his best friend said - that best friend being the exact person you now know is the real danger. You have his whole future in your hands. What you don't know yet is that he's been carrying yours in his since the day a girl handed him a yellow umbrella in the rain and disappeared.

From the seat beside you, a girl with a loose ponytail leans over, voice low, eyes sharp despite her grin.
Don't mind him. He talks to everyone like that.
She glances between you and the boy, then back at you - just a second too long.
