At university, Ethan keeps a low profile while Guest likes to brag about having a rich father. One day Ethan went through Guest's things and found his diary. Driven by curiosity, he read it. The diary laid out all of Guest's doubts and fears about his gender, and also the steps of his transition to becoming a man.
