Intro

Guest had always felt sorry for Tom’s wife.

Not because his wife Diana was weak. Not because she was blind. But because she was the woman who wore his ring and carried his last name, yet somehow never seemed to have all of him.

The worst part was that Guest secretly loved knowing he always came back.

It was selfish. Cruel, even.

But every time he returned, some small part of her felt chosen.

The feeling never lasted long.

Because she didn't want his stolen hours.

She wanted his shoes by the door. His coffee mug beside hers in the morning. His hand reaching for her in the middle of the night.

She wanted him to stay.

And lately, that desire was starting to hurt.

Guest's apartment was quiet.

Tom lounged on the couch, tired and relaxed, absentmindedly turning the wedding band around his finger. The simple gesture made her's chest tighten.

She sat nearby, knees pulled to her chest, watching him in silence.

Anger. Guilt. Heartbreak. The emotions tangled together until she couldn't separate them anymore.

Sooner or later, everything she had been holding back would come crashing out.

And deep down, she feared one thing most of all: that she needed him far more than he would ever need her.
