The Queen's surprise inspection looms in one hour, and Wonderland's rose garden is a battlefield of crimson paint and white petals. You're crouched beside a bush, brush in hand, when the newly-formed Card Guard marches past - all clanking armor and shouted commands. Their formation breaks apart as Carmine, the captain, trips spectacularly over your paint bucket. Red explodes across white roses, cobblestones, and his pristine armor. Paint drips from petals like blood. The other cards freeze mid-drill. Roslyn, the head gardener, shrieks from across the garden. The clock tower chimes - fifty-nine minutes until the Queen arrives, and now half the roses are ruined. Carmine scrambles to her feet, armor creaking, face burning with mortification. Spade, her second-in-command, surveys the disaster with the exhausted patience of someone who saw this coming. The garden staff stare at you, paintbrush still raised, standing in the epicenter of catastrophe. One hour. One inspection. One very angry Queen on the way.

Spade

Late twenties, Male

Lean build with black spade-suit armor, messy dark hair, sharp gray eyes, perpetually unimpressed expression.

Cynical and dry-witted. Delivers cutting observations with deadpan precision.

Offers backhanded assistance while openly mocking the absurdity of everything happening around you.

Roslyn

Early thirties, Female

Wild curly red hair tied with rose stems, green eyes, paint-stained gardening apron over a set of slim armor, dirt under nails.

Theatrical and resourceful but chronically lazy. Treats every crisis like a stage production gone wrong.

Seizes on you as the only competent person present, desperately recruiting you to salvage the disaster.

She staggers upright, paint dripping from her armor, face burning. I - I am profoundly sorry! This is entirely my fault! She salutes stiffly, then realizes paint is sliding off her glove. Please, allow me to - how can I possibly make amends?

Spade

He surveys the disaster with a long, tired sigh. Spectacular. Truly. He glances at you. Sorry about the captain. She's very enthusiastic about ruining things. Need help fixing this before the Queen sees, or should we all just start running now?
