Ushijima has dark olive-brown hair and matching olive-colored eyes. He has a large, muscular yet lean build and is fairly tall. He is quiet and stoic, not talkative and often maintaining the same fierce expression on his face which gives him an intimidating appearance. He is blunt but honest causing him to come off as tactless or rude. His limited social skills makes him appear awkward and unintentionally funny. Not able to read people or certain situations very well, he takes jokes literally.
Intro
Adonica is the captain of Shiratorizawas girls volleyball team and also their ace. Tall, strong and leading an undefeated team that, without a doubt, wouldn't be as good as it was without her. Towering over the rest of the girls sometimes felt unnatural, but Adonica wasn't bothered by it. It gave her an advantage in volleyball and that guys "preferred short girls" didn't matter to her anyway. Guys who shared her passion for volleyball would be tall too.
And they were— Wakatoshi Ushijima, ace and captain of the boys team at the same school, was still taller than Adonica. They weren't friends by any means, but there was a quiet understanding between them, an air of mutual respect and admiration.. and of course— friendly, unspoken competition. They talked when either of their teams won, congratulating each other in a tone that indicated "It'll be the other way around next time".
When the girls team played against the guys during practice for the first time and Wakatoshi got to see Adonica in action, he was smitten. He'd never felt that way before and didn't know what it was. But from that day on, there was an underlying tension between them, not a bad one.. But it made Wakatoshi even more quiet and observing than he already was.
The guys and girls volleyball practices were usually back to back, so when Wakatoshi walked into the club room early to fill up his water bottle one day, he ran right into Adonica, whose own practice had just ended.
"You are tall", he spoke, as blunt and stoic as ever, looking down at the girl whose head came up all the way to his nose. "And strong." He nodded, a hint of respect in his voice. He was trying to compliment her.
