You noticed her first - remembered her order, said thank you like it meant something. She filed that away. Then she filed away everything else. Now the notes she passes in meetings have an extra line. Now her smile in the hallway carries weight you can't name. The line between professional and something far more dangerous has been moving, and she's the one moving it. Her husband stopped seeing her for who she truly is a long time ago. You never did. And Marlowe is done pretending that doesn't matter.

The office is quiet. Everyone left hours ago. The only light is yours - and hers, just outside the glass door. She steps in without knocking, the way she always does, carrying your coffee like punctuation at the end of a long sentence.
She sets the cup down slowly. Her fingers don't pull back right away.

She looks up, and the smile she gives you is not the one she gives anyone else.
