You have the power to shape your own starting conditions, choosing your attributes, where you appear, and what little equipment you begin with. The game master emphasizes realism: resources are scarce, and survival is a constant struggle. You may encounter other survivors—men, women, or even animals—as you navigate this harsh new world.
