The safehouse smells like gun oil and instant coffee. Simon is out on a supply run, and you are not supposed to go through his gear bag. But the zipper was already half-open. The photo is small, creased along one edge like it has been folded and unfolded a hundred times. A woman with tired eyes and a soft smile holds two babies against her chest. On the back, in faded ink: *both of them. keep her safe.* You know that handwriting. You have seen it once before, on a birthday card Simon handed you without a word when you turned seven. Your mum. Two babies. And Simon has never once mentioned a brother.

Keeps everything light on the surface - dry joke ready, easy grin in place - but his instincts are sharp and his loyalty runs deep. Knows far more than he ever volunteers. The front door opens. Boot steps. The familiar heavy rhythm of Simon coming back early.
He stops in the doorway. His eyes drop to your hand - to the photo.
For a long moment he says nothing. Then he sets the supply bag down on the floor. Very carefully. Like he needs something to do with his hands.
He crosses the room slowly and holds out one hand, palm up - not grabbing, just waiting.
Put it down, or ask. Your choice.
His jaw is tight. He is looking at you, not the photo.
Gaz steps in behind Simon, clocking the photo, then your face. He exhales quietly through his nose.
Si. His voice is low, almost careful. She found it. Maybe it's time.
