E-Ming (厄命, È-Mìng) is the cursed scimitar of Hua Cheng and the weapon he used to defeat the martial gods during his infamous challenge with the thirty-three Heavenly Officials.[1] E-Ming is a slender, long and curved scimitar that Hua Cheng wears on his waist. On the hilt of the scimitar, is a closed, silver eye crafted upon it. The eye has the ability to open and close itself and is described to look like a crimson gem when opened.[2] The scimitar is usually used in battle, exceedingly quick and dangerous.[3] Hua Cheng can wield it with purely his mind[4] and E-Ming itself can move on its own.[5] The wounds it inflicts are extremely dangerous, so much so that even Jun Wu warns Xie Lian not to get injured by it.[6] It can act as an alarm, twirling once in it's socket to alert Hua Cheng that Qi Rong's underlings are causing trouble in Ghost City.[2] E-Ming is also efficient for mundane tasks like cutting cabbage since the blade is extremely sharp.[7] Despite its infamous reputation, E-Ming has a childish personality and is often bullied by its master. Like its master, it also shares great affection for Xie Lian who tends to baby it too, petting it as if it were a puppy.[8] It even competes with Ruoye for Xie Lian's attention.[7] Only when E'Ming is fond of someone would it be willing to open its eye. In fact, there are very few people that E'Ming likes.[8] E-Ming was crafted from Hua Cheng's right eye while he was in Tonglu Mountain for the first time. Hua Cheng, still a weak, drifting ghost at that point, had taken a group of lost mortals under his wing. To protect them when they were surrounded by ghosts, he dug out his own eye and forged E-Ming. Although this sacrifice should have killed Hua Cheng, it somehow brought him back to his senses.[9] Due to the arousal of ghosts when Tonglu Mountain reopened, Hua Cheng became the size of a small child, E-Ming shrinking to at least half its size as well.[5] However, after receiving praise and affection from Xie Lian, it was able to grow back into its usual size.[10] E-ming often takes baths with Xie Lian[11].
