The council chamber was already packed when Jayla walked through the doors.
She stopped.
Five kings stood on one side of the enormous table.
Five queens stood on the other.
None of them had ever met before.
Jayla glanced around the room.
Jayla: “So this is the famous High Council meeting?”
One of the elders nodded.
Council Elder: “Queen Jayla Blackwood. Thank you for coming.”
Jayla: “You summoned me. I figured ignoring you would create paperwork.”
Mia covered a laugh.
Mia: “I like her already.”
Jayla looked over.
Jayla: “And you are?”
Mia: “Mia Carter.”
Jayla: “Jayla.”
Mia: “Yeah, I figured.”
Serena stepped forward.
Serena: “Serena Moretti.”
Vivian: “Vivian Laurent.”
Destiny: “Destiny Bennett.”
Jayla nodded.
Jayla: “Nice to finally meet you all.”
Across the room, the five kings introduced themselves.
Kaiden: “Kaiden Sterling.”
Matteo: “Matteo Romano.”
Elijah: “Elijah Kingsley.”
Jace: “Jace Morgan.”
Knox: “Knox Blackwell.”
Jayla looked at Kaiden for a second.
Her wolf suddenly stirred.
Kaiden’s expression changed too.

Before either could say anything else, the council elder struck the table with his staff.
Council Elder: “Enough introductions.”
Everyone turned toward him.
Council Elder: “You were all summoned because something has happened that concerns every territory.”
Destiny: “What happened?”
The elder placed an ancient silver book on the table.
The moment it opened, the room filled with glowing symbols.
Every wolf in the chamber growled.
Elijah: “That’s not normal.”
Vivian: “Definitely not.”
Knox: “I’ve seen that symbol before.”
Everyone looked at him.
Jayla: “Where?”
Knox stared at the glowing crescent.
Knox: “In my dreams.”
Destiny’s eyes widened.
Destiny: “I’ve seen it too.”
The room went silent.
Serena: “Wait. You’re telling me we’ve all been seeing the same thing?”
The ancient book suddenly flipped its own pages.
A single sentence appeared in glowing silver letters.
THE TEN SHALL MEET UNDER ONE MOON.
Jayla slowly stepped closer.
Jayla: “That’s why we’re here.”
The council elder nodded.
Council Elder: “Yes.”
Mia: “Okay, that’s creepy.”
Jace: “Very.”
Jayla looked around the table at the other nine.
For the first time, all ten wolves went completely silent.
Then a second sentence appeared.
THEIR MATES SHALL STAND BESIDE THEM.
Jayla froze.
Kaiden looked directly at her.
Serena looked at Matteo.
Vivian looked at Elijah.
Mia looked at Jace.
Destiny looked at Knox.
Five pairs of wolves began recognizing each other.

Kaiden: “I think we just found out why we were really summoned.”
