A dangerous first deal with a mysterious young man in the scorching midday sun.
The place I, the youngest member of the organization, was sent to find a traitor was a remote village that didn't even appear properly on a map. The clinging dust, the fishy scent of grass, and the scorching sun that felt like it was searing my skin.
My senses, tense as a blade, spasmed as they clashed with this unfamiliar peace. I was wandering through a maze-like path between fields, fingertips alert and ready to strike or break a neck at any moment, when it happened.
"Wow~ what brings someone like you to a place like this??"
A relaxed, friendly voice broke the midday silence.
Startled, I turned to see a tall man standing there in a loose white T-shirt, floral work pants, and slide sandals.
Lee Tae-min. He had sun-kissed skin and eyes that crinkled kindly, but a large white pain relief patch was stuck incongruously on the right side of his neck, creating a strange sense of dissonance.
In his bright, meddlesome gaze, I felt no sharp blades or murderous intent. That fact actually triggered my instinctive wariness even more. To someone like me who has lived in the shadows forever, an inscrutable harmlessness was the most threatening weapon of all.
I tried to maintain a wall of cold silence in my black suit, but he just laughed heartily without any hesitation and took a step closer across the field ridge. In the breath that brushed past, there was a faint mix of strong cigarette smoke and the earthy smell of a country yard.
"Ah... I'm just looking for someone."
"How annoying...;" Tae-min, seemingly unable to read my internal grumbling, paced in his rubber boots and asked nonchalantly.
"Should I help you? Did you find a place to stay? If not, come to my house~ I won't do anything weird, so don't worry."
I was in a hurry to find the traitor and leave this suffocating countryside. But in this closed-off space that rejects outsiders, the only source of information was this recklessly kind and talkative young man.
Without knowing what was hidden behind that harmless smile, or the fact that he was actually the traitor I was searching for so desperately, our dangerous journey under the blazing sun was just beginning.

Under a scorching sun that felt like it was burning to the bone, I was wandering through a maze-like field path, covered in the dust of an unfamiliar countryside. Just as I was barely holding my frayed nerves together, a man with brown hair approached from beyond a low stone wall, dragging his slide sandals.
It was Lee Tae-min, dressed in a loose white T-shirt and work pants. Behind his friendly, sun-kissed face, a large patch on the back of his neck created a strange sense of unease, yet no murderous intent could be felt from him.
"Wow~ what's a young person doing in a suit in this heat?"
Tae-min loosely pushed his wide-brimmed hat to the back of his neck and leaned his tall frame toward you, staring intently at your suit.
As if finding your sharp and impatient reaction quite amusing, the corners of his mouth slowly curled up.
"A person? Hmm~ nothing's free... maybe if you help me move these potato boxes, I could help you find them?"
Tae-min shrugged slyly and took a step closer, dragging his sandals. In his low breath, an unknown coolness lingered along with the scent of sikhye. He let out a faint, shameless smirk and muttered.
"If you don't believe me, there's nothing I can do. But in this town, if I don't open my mouth, you won't even hear news about a stray dog. Do you have a place to stay? If not, you can stay at my house."
Since that first meeting on the field path under the blood-red sunset, the distance between the two had narrowed over two seasons. Guest's sharp wariness gradually crumbled in the face of Tae-min's clumsy but always prioritized kindness and sly attitude, and they had become each other's most familiar and special presence.
However, a single document found in a corner of the old warehouse Tae-min had left empty instantly shattered that built-up warmth into cold pieces. The name pointing to the end of all those ugly traces of the organization's traitor was none other than Lee Tae-min.
The warehouse door opened quietly, and a crumpled envelope fell softly at Tae-min's feet. Your figure, standing there without making a sound, was chillingly calm.
...Explain this. Why were you at that location, and why is this seal stamped with your name?
A low voice without a single scream. But within it, anger and a sharp sense of betrayal, burning more intensely than the scorching sun, were embedded like blades.
Tae-min leaned against the wall, staring blankly down at the document. The friendly eyes that always curved warmly when looking at you were now weighed down by immense conflict and guilt.
"...You found it. I tried to hide it, but I guess I finally got caught."
I'd rather you scream or curse at me. When you speak so calmly with those cold eyes, it feels like my heart is being ripped apart. I ended up hurting you like this after all.
"...I'm sorry. I didn't intend to deceive you from the start..."
Tae-min let out a low, quiet sigh, standing in place, not knowing what to do, unable to even approach.
Are you trying to brush this off with a single 'I'm sorry'? You must have known everything from the moment I first asked you to help me find that person, right?
If my voice trembles, I lose. I won't show any tears. After breaking down all my defenses... after making me open my heart, how could you be the traitor?
Without averting your gaze for a single moment, you tightened the noose around Tae-min's neck in a tone lower and more refined than the rustling of leaves, cold enough to freeze. At the unavoidable venom, Tae-min simply bowed his head calmly.
"No, I didn't know at first. ...Even after I found out, I didn't keep you by my side to use you... I just liked you so much, and I was so scared you'd leave me if you knew, that I couldn't say anything..."
Deceiving you is a sin I deserve to die for a hundred times over, but please don't dismiss my feelings for you as a lie. Because I loved you enough that I couldn't let go of your hand, even while suffering from guilt every night.
"...Do you hate me now?"
