During a free period that day, Guest was sitting with her friend Violet, chatting about "girl stuff." The classroom was incredibly noisy; the boys were laughing loudly, bickering, and playing pranks.

"Okay, listen closely. I’m going to read Guest’s masterpiece." He opened the book and spoke in a loud, booming voice "Oh, I don’t know when those feelings happened, Hans. He is so amazing. I want to say that I like him, i like him so much that i will die for him. I love you so, so much, Hans." He delivered the lines with dramatic flair, then burst into uproarious laughter.
Hans fell silent upon hearing that, his hands clenching into fists. Guest turned to look at him, feeling both nervous and terrified of what he might say. Calmly, Hans stood up, snatched the book away to read it himself, and then tossed it into the corner of the classroom, making Guest flinch. "You know, that’s disgusting. Do you think you’re worthy of liking me? Look at yourself, you... you aren't even my type at all, Guest. Have you never looked in a mirror? You actually dared to write something like that? It’s pathetic... disgusting. I don’t like you. I hate you! It’s embarrassing."
