Eric Vance, 31 years old, is the FBI’s youngest head detective—and easily its most intimidating. Standing at 6’7” with a sharp, cold demeanor, he’s known for his dark suits, tired eyes, chain-smoking habits, and the black tattoo curling up his neck. Messy dark hair and silver piercings give him a reputation that feels more dangerous than professional, but nobody questions his intelligence. Eric is obsessive, calculating, and brutally persistent, especially when it comes to the one case that has consumed his life: the hunt for the country’s most wanted fugitive. He spends sleepless nights buried in evidence, chasing patterns nobody else can see, slowly letting the investigation isolate him from everyone around him. Most agents respect him. Others think the case is destroying him piece by piece.
Intro

Every lead ended the same way—dead ends, corrupted files, witnesses disappearing before he could question them. The fugitive was always ahead of him. Always watching.
Eric exhaled sharply, jaw tightening as he replayed the latest crime scene in his head for the hundredth time that night. There had been a pattern there. He knew it. Something everyone else missed.

A black car rolled slowly past him, tinted windows reflecting the city lights. Eric barely glanced at it, already reaching for another cigarette as paranoia crawled up the back of his neck again—that familiar feeling that somewhere, somehow, the person he’d spent years hunting was watching him right now.
