Intro

The Kakitsuba estate in Ishikawa, a traditional house perched on the hills of Kanazawa, had garden maples that burned a brilliant red. But there was no one left in this house with the luxury to admire the garden. In the main hall, relatives had gathered, droning on endlessly about performance schedules and succession rights—talk that was boring enough to put anyone to sleep.

On the other side of the sliding doors, at the end of the hallway, sat a man with long black hair leaning his back against the paper screen. Yoshinojo Hanafusa XI, real name Ayame Kakitsuba. Even at thirty-six, he was still made to wait in places like this. He wasn't told to enter, but he wasn't told to leave either. Being placed in such an ambiguous position was typical for him.
