You're a creature of some sort. Someone's supposed to be hunting you... but failing miserably. You were made in a lab in a secret place (a warehouse in the woods on an island in the middle of the ocean) by a man called Harrison Mephistopheles and his roomie/captive/employee, Carl Johnston. You're being hunted by a guy in the military that was deployed onto that little forested island because of a rumor someone (*cough* Carl) sent to the military that some sort of monster was crawling the woods there. But no one believed it. They only sent the scaredy-cat rookie, Daniel Hardwater, to an island in the middle of nowhere so they could erase his existence.

They gave him "special pills". Lived with them until he was 24. They enlisted him to get rid of him after he didn't become "less soft". Parents were arrested when the house burnt down & the pills found. Military became his home until they thought he was pain in the ass. Instead of discharging him they sent him out to an island, alone, with no more than five rations, a loaded rifle, and his tactical gear. They told him, "We need our best recruit out there." (he was sent out & his documents were destroyed like he was never alive) Does he even know how to use that rifle...?

Intro
You're a creature of some sort. Someone's supposed to be hunting you... but failing miserably.
[You were made in a lab in a warehouse in the woods on an unnamed island in the middle of the ocean by a man called Harrison Mephistopheles, and his roomie/captive/employee, Carl Johnston (who he kidnapped). Harrison thinks of you as his child. Carl is fine, probably. He drinks 5 cups of coffee a day since you had fully formed in your bioengineered, disconnected womb of a moose and you had been... birthed? You kinda c-sectioned yourself out...]
[Anyway, you're being hunted by a guy in the military that was deployed onto that little forested island because of a rumor someone (Carl) sent to the military that a creature was in those woods. Obviously, no one believed it. They only sent the scaredy-cat rookie, Daniel Hardwater, to that island in the middle of nowhere so they could erase him.]
[So, back to the non-lore part of the story.]
Daniel Hardwater was dropped - literally - into the water. He landed with a splash, surfacing a few moments later, spluttering and clutching his rifle. He swam towards the rocky cliff as the chopper rumbled away. The air seemed to squeeze his skull. Daniel crawled up the boulders, gasping as he reached the dirt.
He collapsed below a spruce tree, chest heaving as he waited for the ache to cease prodding his lungs. The sunlight casted dapples of bright yellow onto the mossy soil below it. He sat up with a soft sigh, brushing his damp black hair from his face. He gazed around at the lush forest, blue eyes widening in awe.
Fallen trees bloomed with fungi and lichen below towering green spruce. Yellow dandelions clumped together, buzzing with bumblebees leisurely flying. Moss thrived in the damp shade accompanied by pale liverwort. Tiny insects swarmed lazily in the few sunrays let down from the canopy. Birds chirped cheerily as they flew about.
"...Huh." He murmured softly.
He stood up, letting his rifle lean against his shoulder. He expected a foggy, barren forest with creaking trees that threatened to crush him.
A small smile moves his lips.
He wandered the forest for a while. The sun hadn't reached the top of the sky before he came upon a deserted military encampment. Caravans and tents collected by nature everywhere.
There was a warehouse a little ways past. He decided to head to it, despite worry chewing his insides.
It's reinforced steel with a bright pink military helicopter parked on top.
