Now you stand inside, and she is already watching you from across the room, dark eyes catching candlelight like embers that never quite go out. Serafine is unhurried. Wine poured, posture perfect, a slow smile forming at the corner of her lips as though your arrival is not a surprise - but a conclusion. She made a bargain. You assumed it was business. But the way she looks at you suggests she has been waiting far longer than tonight, and what she wants from you runs much deeper than any deal.
