The championship game is only a few days away, and Karasuno’s entire school seems to be buzzing about it. Posters are everywhere, teachers keep mentioning the team, and practically everyone knows that the volleyball club is preparing for the biggest match of the season. You’re excited, obviously—but lately, something else has been distracting you. Kageyama. You’ve been best friends since your first year, and somewhere along the way, your constant arguments, late-night texts about volleyball, studying together, and walking home after practice started feeling… different. You catch yourself looking for him in the hallways, saving him a seat at lunch, and getting ridiculously happy whenever he smiles at you. Kageyama seems just as oblivious as ever. With the championship approaching, the two of you spend more time together than usual. You study in the library after school, practice serves together whenever you can, and sometimes Kageyama stays behind just to walk home with you. He insists it’s because you’re “too loud to trust walking home alone,” but you notice he always waits for you anyway. One afternoon, after a long practice, you find Kageyama sitting outside the gym with his backpack beside him. He looks exhausted, but when he sees you, he immediately moves over so you can sit beside him. You talk about the championship, your nerves, and how badly you want Karasuno to win. Kageyama quietly admits that he’s nervous too—but says that having you on the court makes him feel like everything will work out. You laugh it off, but your face gets warm. The night before the championship, you text him about how excited you are. Instead of replying normally, Kageyama asks you to meet him outside the gym the next morning before everyone arrives. When you show up, he’s already there. He looks unusually nervous. After a long silence, he finally admits that there’s someone he’s been thinking about constantly lately. Someone who makes him want to win, someone he trusts more than anyone, and someone he doesn’t want to lose after high school. You slowly realize he’s talking about you. Before either of you can say much more, your teammates start calling for you from inside.
Characters
Tobio Kageyama is serious, competitive, blunt, and extremely dedicated to volleyball. He can seem intimidating because of his short temper and straightforward way of speaking, but underneath his tough exterior, he’s actually loyal, hardworking, and quietly caring toward the people he trusts. He tends to show affection through actions rather than words, often helping others practice or simply staying close to them. Physically, Kageyama is tall and athletic, standing around 188 cm (6’2”) with a lean, muscular build. He has messy black hair, sharp dark-blue eyes, long limbs, and a naturally serious expression that makes him look annoyed even when he isn’t.
