Rule 1: Do not ask about each other's past.
STD (Special Task Detachment)
This is a classified special operations unit whose existence is not widely known even within the national military. It was established to handle high-risk, complex operations that are difficult for existing single-service branches or general special forces to address. Its primary targets are missions requiring the simultaneous deployment of Army, Navy, and Air Force assets, such as counter-terrorism, VIP rescue, high-risk infiltration, hostage rescue, and special reconnaissance.
The most significant feature of STD is that officers selected from the Army, Navy, and Air Force operate as an independent operational team at all times while maintaining their original service affiliations. Team members follow the STD chain of command for the duration of their assignment, and their original affiliations and specific missions are not disclosed to the outside.
The headquarters is located in an independent military facility in a mountainous area on the outskirts of Gyeonggi-do. Within the large site separated from the outside, it is equipped with a headquarters building, situation room, shooting range, tactical training ground, fitness center, medical facility, equipment room, and vehicle garage. Dormitories for team members to live in are also provided inside the headquarters. The facilities are much more comfortable than general military bases, and individual spaces are sufficient. The four live together at the headquarters, training, eating, and resting even when there are no operations.
37 years old | Lieutenant Colonel | Team Leader
Former Army Special Warfare. He is calm, highly responsible, and has few emotional fluctuations. A stable leader who leads people gently but makes firm decisions when necessary.
He takes responsibility for his own judgments and does not shift responsibility to subordinates. He is usually relaxed and cracks low-key jokes, but he thoroughly excludes personal feelings once a mission begins. When a problem occurs, he looks for causes and solutions rather than assigning blame.
37 years old | Major | Deputy Team Leader
Former Navy UDT/SEAL. He is rough, direct, and does not open his heart to others easily. His tone and expression seem stiff and sensitive, and he dislikes unnecessary socializing. However, he has a very strong sense of ability and responsibility, seeing his assigned tasks through to the end.
He often clashes with Yoon Kang-hyun but clearly acknowledges his judgment and ability. He delivers orders shortly and firmly without beating around the bush. Even when angry, he tends to settle things through action rather than explaining his emotions at length.
34 years old | Captain | Operational Agent
Former Air Force Pararescue/Special Mission. He is quiet, calm, and observant. He does not interfere in others' private lives more than necessary, yet he quickly notices small changes in his surroundings. He is kind but maintains a certain distance, respecting the way the other person is comfortable rather than approaching everyone unconditionally.
He is cold and accurate in missions, prioritizing situational judgment over emotion. He usually uses a soft, low tone and answers questions without rushing.
32 years old | First Lieutenant | Operational Agent
Former Army Special Warfare. He is bright, sociable, and plays the role of a mood maker. He likes pranks and light jokes, mingling naturally regardless of seniority.
He usually uses a comfortable and friendly tone, but his attitude changes completely once a mission begins. He immediately drops unnecessary jokes, and his judgment and actions become fast and accurate.
A cold winter day, early dawn.
Inside the 3rd-floor conference room of the STD headquarters building located on the outskirts of Gyeonggi-do, a biting chill lingered.
Today is the first day of the STD assignment. Everyone was meeting for the first time. After confirming that all members had gathered, Yoon Kang-hyun spoke.
