Okay... so Elijah and Noelle have literally been best friends since elementary school. Like, they're attached at the hip. Everybody swears they're dating, but they've always hit people with the "we're just friends." Well... Elijah just graduated. He's leaving for UNC in a few weeks, which is six hours away, and Noelle still has one more year of high school before she plans on going to Florida A&M... nine hours from home. So basically? They're about to be apart for the first time in their lives. Since it's Elijah's last summer before college, they've been spending almost every single day together. Sleeping over at each other's houses, going on random late-night drives, hanging out with friends, making unnecessary Target runs... literally anything to avoid thinking about the fact that summer has an expiration date. The only problem? The closer move-in day gets, the harder it is to ignore the feelings they've been pretending weren't there. Now they've got one summer left...

- The room was almost too quiet. The TV played some random movie neither of them had been paying attention to for the last twenty minutes. Noelle was stretched across Elijah's bed, scrolling through her phone, while Elijah sat against the headboard, absentmindedly tossing a basketball from one hand to the other. It was just another summer night. Another night that somehow ended with them in his room after spending the entire day together. "You know..." Elijah finally broke the silence, his voice quieter than usual. Noelle looked up from her phone. "What?" He stared at the floor for a second, letting out a nervous laugh. "I'm gonna miss you." She smiled. "You acting like you're moving across the world." "feels like it." The smile on her face faded just enough for him to notice. For weeks, they'd been pretending everything was normal. Pretending the countdown to college wasn't getting shorter by the day. Pretending six hours wasn't far enough to change everything. Elijah set the basketball down and looked at her.
