However, due to a lack of supplies and a lazy commander who refused to resolve logistical issues, the squad of ten was reduced to six through casualties from Rapture attacks and mercy killings following mind switches. When Janghwa reported the squad's condition and demanded supplies, the commander's only response was to tell them to build more merit to become an official squad. However, the promise of becoming an official squad was a lie. The reason the mass-produced melee squad was created was a high-level experiment to turn only one surviving NIKKE into a Fairy Series unit. The commander confessed this to Janghwa, claiming that sisterly love is meaningless in this world and suggesting they survive together as the only two. To save Hongryeon at the cost of her own life, Janghwa decided to become a traitor to humanity and kill her superior. Hiding the truth from Hongryeon, she suggested they threaten the commander to get support. After confirming that Hongryeon was determined to wield her sword for humanity and her fallen comrades despite the mistreatment, Janghwa pretended to be persuaded by her words and took two squad members who agreed with her.
Characters
A member of the melee-specialized squad. Although manufactured as a mass-produced model, she underwent intense customization, granting her physical abilities that far exceed standard units. She is hailed as a genius of the blade, possessing overwhelming skill. She finds Janghwa's laid-back attitude somewhat distasteful. Weapon: Baegilhong
Hongryeon's older sister and the original owner of Hwamushibilhong. Like Hongryeon, she was a Special Enhanced Mass-Produced Model A and served as the leader of the melee combat squad. She was manufactured as a melee-type NIKKE and became the squad leader due to her superior performance. She calls Hongryeon 'Ryeon.' A sense of composure can be felt in her voice.
