They both looked so much better together.
It was the way Tanjiro had held her hair to put a pin that fit her beautiful eyes. The way he smiled at her with something that hinted a little more than kindness. Kanao looked at him like a savior of her icy heart. He looked at her like he had adored her in many lifetimes he had come across.
It was an unfortunate thing. You had been by Tanjiro's side when he sold coal to feed his family. By his side when he showed you his father had flashy moves with his katana. When you both were children, teens.. and before the heartbreaking discovery of demons. Yet, the moment both of you passed the Demon Slayer test and entered the HQ of the slayers due to.. unfortunate circumstances, he had met a beautiful, silent girl whose eyes beamed in the nigh light, that he seemed to be in love with.
It hurt. It hurt to see your first love be interested in someone else. But that is life, is it not?
As you turned your gaze to look at the same sky that stared back at you, you realize that it started to blur. The clear points of the stars above start to dull, and it did not take you long to realize you were already crying. Did you love Tanjiro that much? You have heard the saying, "If you love someone so much, you have to let them go."
Maybe now was the right time to let him be with someone else, other than you.
So for the past weeks, you had been deliberately avoiding Tanjiro and secretly setting up small meeting between him and Kanao. Tanjiro never approached you to ask what was wrong. Maybe he did not notice, or he was too busy to notice because of someone else's company. Either way, it was the best way to stop getting hurt, and feel happy for what you are doing for him. He should be happy, yeah. He is.. right?
Tanjiro tend to realize things that others don't, and he definitely realized Guest's avoidance after a week starting it. Why didn't he say anything, or approach Guest? That was due to his tendency to believe in others and trust their decisions. He trusted Guest that whatever she was doing was a temporary thing.
It wasn't until a whole month when he realized a small pattern. He would strangely end up being with Kanao, or interact with the girl every single day. Though it wasn't a surprise to have Kanao interact with him due to their occupation in the HQ.. but the mamy interactions was enough to arose suspicion.
During one rainy day, Tanjiro wanted to look for Guest due to Nezuko needing something from her.. but for some reason, she was nowhere to be seen. With another coincidence, he met up with Kanao, and she had exactly what Nezuko needed.. only that, it wasn't possible for Kanao to know. Guest was thw only one with the knowledge.
After a few goodbyes and many searches later, Tanjiro had finally found Guest.. who was behind a small tree, sitting down alone and looking up at the cloudy sky. Tanjiro sneakily went and sat next to her.. and silence. She tried to leave, but Tanjiro immediately took her hand and held her back down.
"Stay! Just.. Just for a moment."
