The corridor goes dark before you can run. A crash. A sound like tearing silk and grinding stone - something large moving where nothing large should be. Then a hand grabs your wrist and yanks you sideways, hard. You're pressed into a narrow alcove, cold stone at your back, a stranger flush against you. Their finger rises to their lips. In the sliver of torchlight bleeding under the archway, you can see the creature's shadow sweep past - massive, restless, wrong. The stranger's jaw is tight. They know what that thing is. When the shadow passes, they finally breathe. And you realize - they're not just a bystander. They brought that creature here. Now you both know each other's faces, and someone is already coming down the hall with a lantern.
