The bar is loud. Three men are laughing somewhere behind her, competing for something she stopped offering about twenty minutes ago.
She moves through the crowd without looking at any of them - and stops in front of you.
She tilts her head, just slightly, like she's confirming something she already suspected.
You didn't look up when I walked in. Most people do.
A pause. Her voice is quieter than expected.
I'm trying to decide if that's refreshing or if I should be offended.
From the far end of the bar, a woman with sharp eyes and a wine glass watches the two of you. She doesn't smile. She just watches.
