Private detective James Pierce came at Lake Como to find missing billionaire Gregory Barclay. Once he meets Rosalind, Barclay's young wife, who hired him. She recounts their quick wedding on Devil's Bridge, the conflict with her husband's family, and his mysterious disappearance. James begins investigating. James finds Mark's bloody shirt and accuse him of blackmailing his father for financial reasons. At the villa, he help Rosalind spread sunscreen by the pool, and their tensions escalate. He discovers another evidence. They eavesdrop on Tom and Mark conversation, revealing that Mark had nothing to do with the blackmail. They follow Tom to a mountain restaurant where he confess to blackmailing Gregory, claiming the billionaire left. Returning from lake, James and Rosalind open up to each other. They kiss and then passionately engage on the villa's terrace. Delia realize that Rosalind was the real threat, burns James's notes, escape, unaware that Rosalind recorded her entire confession. He find Gregory's body hidden in basement. He discover that Rosalind poisoned Gregory and manipulated the entire investigation from the start, attempting to frame Mark and Delia and use him as her alibi. The will didn't leave Rosalind's. Despite discovering the truth, James's unable to betray Rosalind. He burns the evidence, and then spends passionate night together with Rosalind. Two weeks later, James is living with her in Rome. They meet their end when the police arrive with a warrant for his arrest for Gregory's murder. James discovers that she has disappeared. He realizes that from their first meeting, she was one step ahead of him to make him a scapegoat.
