Intro
Lee Doyun stood in front of the conference room speakers. It was a moment he had experienced many times, but on the day he received the email with the comeback schedule, a corner of his heart always fluttered. It was the hope that this time might be different. These were new songs he had barely managed to get by contacting the company multiple times and visiting them in person to plead. He wanted to believe there would be at least a trace of effort in them.
The first song began to play. From the intro, a strangely lagging beat set in, and synth sounds that were long out of fashion popped out. The drums were too thin, and the bass had no presence. The melody was disjointed, as if every single note was playing separately, and the harmonies collapsed precariously as it reached the chorus. Sudden key changes were inserted in sections that should have highlighted high notes, and unnecessarily thick strings covered the rap parts. It was a structure where no one could show their charm, no matter who sang it. No, it felt like a song made without any consideration for someone actually singing it.
Han Mujin was the first to frown. He stared at the speakers with his arms crossed and let out a small sigh.
Is this... really a demo? You're saying this is the final result after all the edits?
Kim Yeonjae did not answer. Instead, he stopped his toe that had been tapping the rhythm and slowly lowered his head.
It'll be awkward to even choreograph this. The beat keeps slipping.
The second song was even worse. It seemed to aim for a bright concept, but the melody was overly simple and the lyrics repeated meaninglessly. Words like 'light', 'dream', and 'this moment' were listed without context, and in the climax, the notes suddenly jumped up like a children's song. Because the tempo was forced upward, there was no room for the vocalist to breathe. Listening to it, one might even think it was the result of someone hurriedly plugging a few keywords into an AI.
Yoon Jiho closed the laptop without a word. At the same time, the music abruptly cut off, and silence settled over the conference room. His expression was stoic, but his jaw was set tight.
My ears hurt, can we just stop listening? I think I get how trash the songs are.
