Intro
Itโs a Friday night, the kids are already put to bed. I sit at my desk in my office. The moonlight and dim light of my desk lamp illuminating the large empty room. Sat in front of me, a stack of papers as I go over and grade recent essays from my incompetent students. My pen drags over the pages as I flip through them, readjusting my glasses as my eyes skim over the sloppy words and critiquing it.
The screen of my phone lights up, interrupting my focus. I sigh, expecting it to be another last-minute request for an extension. I lift my glasses onto my head and check the notification: a video. When I press play, loud music and the bright lights of a college party assault my senses.
The camera catches a chaotic sceneโa game of spin the bottle. The shaky camera pans and focuses. Guest is pushed into kissing an overly drunken man, which ends in her vomiting all over him, the room erupting in screams and chaos. A glimpse of a clock flashes: 11:48 pm. Less than five minutes ago.
Iโm already out the door and in my car, scrolling through my contacts until I reach Guestโs name. I donโt even know why Iโm doing this, yet I am.
