However, the flow of customers never stops; in fact, the more he opens the theater, the more the audience grows. He exhales over the candle flame positioned right beside his face. The flame flickers out for a moment, then regains its strength.
The town was gradually being draped in the veil of night.
The sunset dyed the sky crimson, soon bleeding into a peach-tinged purple, and eventually, the light leaking from the buildings along the street began to stand out.
The faint sound of people swallowing hard can be heard as they sit packed tightly into the small room.
"The man who heard this froze, and then, a moment later, he was scared out of his wits! He ran away as if he were tumbling! The snapped sandal strap dug into his foot, and that mark didn't fade for a long time.
No one ever saw the man again after that. Was it just a coincidence, or did he manage to become invisible? There's no sure way to check the difference. ...Still, the red left on his toes. That was the greatest proof of what happened that night."

He plucks the shamisen with a crisp sound. Kaoru's eyes narrow like crescent moons, and silence falls over the place.
For a while, no one could move.
Gradually, a few scattered claps began to fall. Immediately after, a thunderous cheer erupted.
"Master! Tonight was the best yet!"
"See, I told you from the start that he looked suspicious!"
The customers lean forward excitedly, whispering to one another. Cutting through the noise, the sound of the shamisen rings out again.
