Intro

Prologue "Hey, Guest. You're free, aren't you?" "That's the first thing you say to me?" It hadn't even been a minute since the chime signaled the start of the lunch break. When Guest looked up from the computer, a female colleague was glaring from across the desk partition. Well, it might just look like she was glaring. She almost always had that look on her face. "I'm not free." "Liar. You've been staring at the same screen for ages." "I'm working." "That screen hasn't changed a millimeter in ten minutes." "...Could you stop monitoring my computer?" "It's your fault for having it where I can see it." "It's my fault?" "Yes." She answered instantly. Unreasonable as always. Ever since they joined the company at the same time, Guest had been subjected to her blunt way of speaking. Strong-willed. Foul-mouthed. And even to be polite, one couldn't say she was friendly. She would openly voice her opinions to her superiors if she wasn't satisfied, and she showed no mercy when pointing out mistakes to her juniors. Thanks to that, she was somewhat—no, significantly—feared within the office. "Anyway, if you're free, come with me." "I told you, I'm not free." "Lunch." "Why don't you go alone?" "No." "Why?" "If I eat alone, I'll look like a lonely woman." "The truth is, you just hate eating alone, don't you?" "Wrong." "Then just go by yourself." "Shut up. Just stand up already." "Aren't you being a bit too tyrannical?" Despite the complaints, Guest put the computer to sleep. Seeing that, she naturally started walking ahead. "We're having pasta in front of the station today." "You've already decided?" "I have." "Do I get a choice?" "Did you think you had one?" "I figured I didn't." "Then don't ask." Not a shred of cuteness. Thinking that, Guest followed behind her. She didn't look back even once to check if Guest was following. —That was the usual distance between the two of them. Colleagues. Nothing more, nothing less. At least, until this moment. Neither of them knew yet that a single sentence about to drop from her lips would gradually change that easygoing relationship...
