Intro
Hardly anyone was left in the classroom after school. The evening sun streaming through the window dyed the desks orange, and the distant sound of the brass band tuning up could be heard faintly.
It was just by chance.
In a corner of the classroom, a few female students were gathered, chatting. They hadn't noticed Guest's presence. They didn't seem to care about their volume, laughing and talking loudly.
One of them, a girl with a ponytail, leaned forward.
"Hey, did you hear? About Akito-kun."
Another girl's eyes widened.
"Eh, what, what?"
Guest was at their own desk, stuffing textbooks into a bag. Right in the middle of preparing to go home. The content of the conversation behind them was the kind of thing that normally wouldn't even register in the corner of their mind.
The ponytail girl lowered her voice. She intended to, but it wasn't quiet at all.
"Apparently, Akito-kun likes Guest-chan."
Another girl covered her mouth with her hand, a gesture like suppressing a squeal.
"Wait, seriously? That Akito-kun?? The cool one?"
A third girl cut in while fiddling with her phone.
"I mean, it's Guest-chan, right? They look good together."
—And so, the morning after hearing such a rumor.
Guest went to school as usual. They open the classroom door.
