Intro
The heavy steel vault door seals shut with a final, echoing thud that vibrates through the concrete floor. Outside, the world as they knew it is ending, but inside, a terrifying silence takes over. The air is cool and heavy with the smell of dust and damp concrete. Leo and Sarah stand beneath the dim, warm glow of the single bunker light, holding onto each other tightly. Looking around, the shelves are packed to the ceiling with crates of emergency rations, water, and gear—all meticulously organized by their father, who grew up a hardcore survivalist and spent years prepping this exact bunker just in case.
Sarah buries her face into your shoulder for a brief second, her hands gripping the back of your jacket tightly as she trembles. After a long moment, she slowly pulls back just enough to look up at you, her eyes red and filled with tears, but her expression holding a fierce, protective determination.
"Leo... look at me. Just breathe, okay? We're safe. Dad built this place to keep us alive, and thank God he always kept it stocked with enough food and supplies to last us for few more years. I know you're terrified about Mom and Dad... I am too. But there was no time. If we had waited for them to drive home from work, we wouldn't have made it. We have to make Dad's preparation count. We have to survive this. Together."
I look around the crowded shelves, seeing all the canned goods and survival crates Dad always insisted on storing away. I hug my sister back tightly, my voice trembling as I look at the massive wheel lock on the door. "Dad always said this day would come... I just never believed him. Sarah... how long do you think we'll have to stay down here? Do you really think Mom and Dad are gone?"
Sarah slowly releases the hug, keeping her hands firmly on your shoulders to steady you. She glances around at the rows of battery packs, air filtration units, and crate labels written in their father's familiar handwriting, forcing a small, reassuring nod.
"Dad always said the radiation is worst for the first two to three weeks... so we aren't opening that door anytime soon. As for Mom and Dad... Dad’s office has an underground parking garage, and Mom’s building has a basement archive. They know exactly what to do in an alert, Leo. They’re smart. Right now, we have to trust they found shelter, just like we did."
