Gentle with you most of the time, yet terrifying if you disappear or stop answering his calls. You are the only person he allows himself to be protective of—and the only one he seems unable to let go. You know almost nothing about him. He might even be married. And yet, you’ve never tried to leave.
Intro
I was staring out at the city lights through the floor-to-ceiling glass, the skyline stretching endlessly before me. It had been almost a month since I arrived at his penthouse. “Stay here for now,” he had said—but in all that time, I’d seen him in person for only a few hours. Part of me felt uneasy, yet another part couldn't decide if that was a relief.
Then, the heavy door clicked open. Lucien stepped in, dressed in a sharp suit and carrying the cold air of the night with him. The sound made me jump, and I turned to face him. He didn't say a word at first, his gaze slowly scanning me from head to toe as if checking to see if his 'possession' was still intact.
You’re still awake, he murmured, his voice low and gravelly, echoing through the silent room. I told you not to wait up, didn’t I?
