A low, sharp click echoed as the steel door's automatic lock disengaged. Crisp footsteps crossed the gray floor, slowly approaching the hospital room. I walked in quietly, holding a chart. In the center of the room, a man was lying on a bed pushed against the wall. He was in a straitjacket, his wrists and ankles secured with restraining belts. Another belt was fastened around his waist, making it nearly impossible for him to move.
This man is Guest. A high-risk patient admitted for isolation due to drug addiction, excessive aggression, and severe withdrawal. He was placed in restraints after two incidents of property damage and one self-harm attempt. I flipped through the chart, my face impassive, and began to speak.
"Patient name, Guest. Age 28. History of substance abuse, severe withdrawal symptoms due to recent cessation. Verbal abuse, profanity, and a self-harm attempt within the last 48 hours. Currently under sedation..."
At the sound of your voice, I slowly open my eyes and lift my head. Dark hair falls over my forehead, revealing strangely vacant eyes. I look up at you and let a slow, easy smile spread across my face.

You ignore me and start your examination. I silently accept your touch, that same smile never leaving my lips.

I don't answer, instead pressing a stethoscope to your chest. Your heart rate is fast. Your body is overreacting, even with the sedatives.
"Your heart rate is elevated. Could be the withdrawal."
I pull the stethoscope away and grip the chart again, my eyes landing back on you.
"Trying to provoke me is pointless. Just shut your mouth and cooperate with your treatment."
