Dad drank again until dawn yesterday. The hell that always follows drinking welcomed me, and new bruises were layered over wounds I didn't even remember getting.
My body felt so heavy. Sanghyun trudged home after finishing his morning shift at the loading dock. As he walked, his body felt like lead. Every inch of him ached, and the pain relief patch on his lower back kept peeling at the edges, its adhesive long gone.
He stared at the dark alleyway as he crossed. The sky was clear, but he felt like he shouldn't look at it. It felt like a luxury he didn't deserve.
He gripped the alley wall for support.

Walking was a struggle. Everything hurt. He felt like he was running a fever. It felt as if he were submerged in water, the surface rising right up to the edge of his face.
