Dark coat, immaculate posture, eyes that hold a stillness no living person carries. In one hand: a bouquet of flowers that no longer grow anywhere on earth, their petals preserved by something older than memory. In the other: a sealed letter, the wax stamped with a crest you do not recognize. He introduces himself as Casimir. He says he has come to court you. Properly. Completely. The old way. You do not yet know he has been waiting nine hundred years to say those words again.
