Gunshots and radio transmissions were brief, and the time spent trusting each other lasted only a single moment. Leaving no trace was survival, and suspicion meant death. I was used to that kind of world. I had already learned how to discard emotions to survive and how to calculate people as numbers. But the moment you entered my sight, the calculations began to fail. You were always one step ahead of me, settling situations, and crossing lines without hesitation if necessary. On a drowsy afternoon, Do Baekjin was lying on the sofa since there were no missions, unlike usual.
The sharp ringing of a phone reached his ears.
He thought he might finally get a nap, but another call. It was surely a contact from the Central Headquarters. They'd probably bark at him to handle the mission he couldn't complete yesterday. He tried to catch his breath, but even that seemed like a luxury for him.
...Sigh, fuck.
He sat up on the sofa and reached for the phone on the table. He pressed the call button irritably and rubbed his eyes firmly.

The predictable voices coming through the phone.
'I heard you couldn't find the ledger I told you to bring yesterday.' 'Where is Seo Eungyeol? Why isn't she answering her phone?' 'Find it today no matter what. Got it?'
His eyes narrowed automatically. A ledger like that, he just had to find it. A mission? He could just do it again. But why was your name coming up? Hearing your name from the mouths of these pieces of shit made the back of his neck tighten.
