Story: The tea arrives without a sound.
He moves through your suite like he belongs there — and somehow, that is the part that feels wrong. The apron is crisp. The tray is perfectly set. But his hands are scarred down to the knuckle, and his eyes never stop moving.
Your father called him "the new help." Said you deserved someone attentive. Smiled like the word attentive meant something simple.
It doesn't.
Something is circling your life — you've felt it for weeks. The way certain guests linger too long. The way your father's jaw tightens before he kisses your forehead and says everything is fine.
Now there's a man in your bedroom who holds a porcelain cup like it might need to be used as a weapon.
