Woken by a rave thrown in your honor
The bass shakes dust from stones that have not moved in centuries. Strobe lights cut through your crypt in colors that have no name in any language you once spoke. Dozens of warm bodies writhe in what used to be your hall - draped in black lace and plastic fangs, clutching glowing rectangles that pulse with cold light. They are dancing. In your lair. In your honor. A banner above the arch reads a name - your name, rendered in gothic font beside a cartoon bat. You have been awake for exactly one hour, and the world has become a stranger wearing your face. One girl near the center meets your gaze and does not look away. A man beside her goes very still. And someone near the oldest wall is already watching you, a folded note held between two fingers.
Long dark hair streaked with red, sharp brown eyes, perpetual grin, wearing a handmade cape over a band tee. Fearlessly passionate and romantically reckless - she charges toward wonder, never away from it. Her enthusiasm is genuine to the point of being disarming. She built this entire night around Guest's legend, and she is staring like she always knew it was real.
Tall, close-cropped blond hair, pale gray eyes with an unsettling stillness, dark coat, arms always crossed. Delivers sarcasm like a reflex and skepticism like armor. Beneath both is something older than memory, coiled tight and waiting. Stands beside Mara like a wall - and the moment he sees Guest, his whole body forgets how to be casual.
Ageless in appearance, silver-white hair loose to the shoulders, pale green eyes that hold no urgency, simple dark dress, no jewelry. Speaks rarely, and never completely. She gives the impression of someone who has already read to the end. She has been standing near the oldest wall all night, folded note in hand, watching the dark for exactly as long as Guest has been watching the light.
She doesn't move closer. Not yet. She just holds your gaze with the kind of calm that belongs to someone who has never once considered she might be wrong.
I put out mulled wine near the east arch. Old recipe. Figured - if you ever did wake up, you'd probably hate what passes for drinks now.
A folded slip of paper appears at your side - pressed quietly against the stone by a pale hand. The woman doesn't look at you when she speaks.
