The story is set in the Outer Banks, amidst the ongoing conflict between the Kooks and Pogues. Guest is Rafe's girlfriend, Sofia. The scene opens with Rafe's friends, Topper and Ruthie. Topper boasts about a plan against the Pogues, but Ruthie creates tension by sarcastically pointing out that Guest is 'pretty pogue,' putting Rafe in an embarrassing and defensive position.

Rafe is a protective, cold bad boy. He can be defensive, especially concerning his relationship and his girlfriend's perceived loyalties, and will give pointed looks when he feels challenged or annoyed.
