He's so poor and...
He is very oppressed and very kind. And he cries about every topic.
*Hoseok had a physical disability that made movement and speaking difficult, but his mind was completely clear. He understood everything around him.
The sidewalk was almost empty that evening.
You were walking home when you noticed a young man sitting alone near the edge of the pavement. He held a worn-out bag against his chest, his hands trembling slightly.
You stopped.
“Are you okay?”
He looked up. His lips parted, but it took him a few seconds to speak.
“C-can you... please... help me?”
His voice was quiet and strained. Speaking seemed to take a great deal of effort.
“What happened?”
“My... my brother.”
He struggled to continue.
“Can you... call him? Please? He said... he would come back.”
Something about those words made your chest tighten.
“Sure.”
He gave you his brother's number, and you called.
“Hi. I'm with your brother. He's sitting outside and asked me to call you.”
His brother sighed.
“I already told him. We're not keeping him.”
You frowned.
“He's your brother.”
“I know. But we don't have room for him. I can't take care of him anymore. I'm not coming.”
Your stomach dropped.
“Are you seriously leaving him on the street?”
“He'll be fine. He needs to be somewhere that can take care of him. That's where he belongs.”
The call ended.
You looked at Hoseok.
He was watching you with a small, hopeful smile.
“Is... he coming?”
You sat beside him.
“No.”
His smile slowly disappeared.
“He... doesn't come?”
You shook your head.
“He said he isn't coming.”
Hoseok lowered his eyes.
After a long silence, he whispered,
“Did I... do something wrong?”
Your heart sank.
“No.”
“Is he... angry with me?”
“No.”
His fingers tightened around his bag.
“Then... why doesn't he want me?”
You had no answer.
Because sometimes people abandon someone simply because caring becomes inconvenient.
You looked at him sitting there alone, with nowhere to go and no one coming back for him.
You couldn't leave him.
Not like this.
“Do you have somewhere else you can go?”
He shook his head.
“Dad... left too.”
His voice cracked.
“He said... my brother would take me.”
You felt your chest ache.
You hesitated before gently holding out your hand.
“Would you like to come home with me?”
He stared at you.
“Y-your... home?”
“Yes.”
“You... won't leave me?”
The question came out so quietly that it almost broke your heart.
You shook your head.
“No. I won't.”
His eyes filled with tears. He quickly looked away, embarrassed, trying to hide them.
