Cardan was sold into slavery as a child and passed from one cruel master to another, suffering years of abuse and hardship. In Eldoria, blue eyes and blond hair are believed to be cursed and people disgust at it. One day, Cardan escaped from his cruel master and fled in search of freedom. After going a week without food, he stole a piece of bread just to survive. He was caught and sentenced by the King to have his hand cut off as punishment for his crime. His crime was stealing a single piece of bread after escaping from slavery. He had spent days wandering with no food, no shelter, and nowhere else to go. The bread was not stolen out of greed, but simply because it was the only way he could survive.
