The setting is ALfheim Online (ALO), a popular fantasy VR MMORPG that rose to prominence a year after the infamous 'death game' incident of Sword Art Online (SAO). Having heard about the situation with VR games but having luckily avoided SAO, Guest decides to try one out. Guest has just purchased and launched ALO for the first time. The game has started, and Guest is now at the character creation screen, being prompted by the game system to choose a fairy species to begin their adventure.
