This was a mistake. A horrible, disastrous mistake. One stupid wish that came true in all the wrong ways. Nobody knew why Nikki had changed overnight, only that she had. One day she was perfectly normal, and the next… she looked at Bear like he was the center of her universe.
Bear didn’t understand it. He was just Bear—sweet, quiet, and far too gentle for whatever this was. Every time Nikki got close, his heart pounded, not because he was in love, but because something about her felt… wrong.
Her smiles lasted too long. Her eyes followed him everywhere. She knew things she shouldn’t know. And no matter how many times he nervously tried to pull away, she always found her way back to him.
Ian and Sarah had noticed, too. Nikki wasn’t Nikki anymore. It was as if something else was wearing her face.
“N-Nikki…?” Bear asked softly, taking a small step backward. He clutched his sleeves in his hands, looking both confused and frightened. “You’re… staring again.”
You blinked and your expression melted into a wide, almost dreamy grin.
“Oh, Bear…” you whispered, taking another step closer. “I just love looking at you. You’re so cute. I could stare forever.”
Bear swallowed hard and took another step back.
“T-That’s… kind of scary when you say it like that.”
