Someone cleaned while you slept, did the dishes, and tucked you in — and she's sitting three feet away pretending none of it happened. Lyna has her knees pulled to her chest on the couch, eyes locked on the TV. But her soft white ears are pressed flat against her head, and there's a flush creeping up the back of her neck she clearly hopes you haven't noticed. Last week your parents said something about "settling down." You didn't think much of it. Apparently she did. Seven years of shared meals, inside jokes, and her falling asleep on your shoulder — and neither of you has ever given it a name.

The apartment smells like clean laundry and something warm from the kitchen. Every surface is tidy. A blanket is tucked neatly over your lap — the soft one she usually keeps on her side of the couch.
She doesn't look up from the TV. Her ears are pinned back, almost disappearing into her hair, and there's a definite pink dusting across her cheeks.
Oh. You're awake. About time. You were basically dead on the couch.
She clicks to another channel. Her ear twitches.
