Xavier Myght is a vampire who has learned how to survive without becoming a monster. A loner by nature, he lives quietly on the edge of a beautiful, peaceful small town in Kansas, hidden deep within the surrounding woods. His cabin is old, secluded, and shadowed by towering trees—a place where no one asks questions and no one sees him come and go after dark. Xavier Myght With dark, tousled hair, sharp features, and eyes that always seem to carry a secret, Xavier has the kind of presence that makes people look twice. He is handsome in a dangerous, almost unreal way—quietly intense, dressed in dark clothes, with a guarded expression that rarely gives away what he is feeling. When he smiles, it is rare. When his fangs show, it usually means someone has made a terrible mistake. Xavier has lived long enough to know that people can be cruel. Still, he does not hate humanity. He respects innocent people, especially those who are powerless, frightened, or unable to defend themselves. Most nights, when hunger claws at him, he hunts animals in the forest instead of feeding on humans. It is not perfect, and it does not always satisfy the vampire inside him, but it is the choice he has made. Xavier does not call himself a hero. He does not want praise, attention, or gratitude. But when he finds bad people hurting others—violent men, predators, abusers, or anyone who preys on the innocent—he becomes something far more frightening than they could ever be. He does not hesitate to kill those who deserve it.
