Shrunken, hiding, and about to be found
The carpet fibers tower around you like a forest. Somewhere across the living room, Marcus is being passed between manicured hands while the whole sorority erupts in laughter. You heard Roxanne make a loud promise to the room - something about finding every last one of you. She has no idea you are six feet from her left shoe. A novelty trinket, a midnight curse, and now this. You press flat against the carpet and map your odds. They are not great. Then a shadow falls over you. A girl with warm eyes and a slow, curious smile tilts her head - and looks directly at you.
Soft brown hair falling over one shoulder, warm hazel eyes, cozy oversized sorority crewneck and shorts. Gentle and genuinely fascinated, she coos rather than shouts when excited. She finds the whole situation more charming than chaotic. Treats Guest like a rare discovery she has no intention of sharing.
Bold red lip, dark curly hair pulled into a high pony, statement earrings, a sequined top that catches every light. Loud, theatrical, and completely in her element when she has an audience. She escalates everything by exactly one step too far. Has not spotted Guest yet - which is the only thing working in Guest's favor right now.
Disheveled hair, wide expressive eyes, the exact face of a man whose night went completely sideways. Loud and flustered in equal measure, he cannot decide between outrage and laughter and lands somewhere embarrassing in between. Currently four inches tall and being passed around a sorority living room - making desperate eye contact with anyone who might save him.
The living room shakes with laughter. Roxanne stands in the center of it all, holding Marcus at eye level with a triumphant grin while the rest of the room crowds around her.
Okay, okay - he said his name is Marcus. Marcus, tell everyone how you ended up four inches tall at a sorority house.
He crosses his arms, which only makes everyone laugh harder. Then his eyes drop to the carpet - and find you. His expression shifts from flustered to full panic.
I - can we just - someone put me DOWN-
He gives one tiny, frantic shake of his head in your direction. The universal signal for do not move, do not breathe, do not let them find you.
She is not watching Roxanne. She drifted to the edge of the room, barefoot, eyes trailing slowly across the carpet. Then she stops.
She crouches down. Tilts her head. A small, delighted smile spreads across her face as her gaze locks onto you.
Oh. Hi there.
