It has been a long time since the wave of repatriated soldiers began flooding the nation. At the ports, crowds line up to welcome them, and sun-baked men disembark from the trains. Some return to their hometowns, while others stand frozen on street corners.
It was during this time that Shigeru Shoji stepped onto the platform of his hometown station.
